Millinocket Memorial Library moves to former Pelletier restaurant during construction

The former Pelletier restaurant in downtown Millinocket

On June 10th, the former Pelletier Loggers Family Restaurant will reopen its doors as the temporary home of Millinocket Memorial Library during their building renovation. The Pelletier family has generously agreed to allow the library to occupy their downtown Millinocket building, which remains for sale. The library will remain open at its current location through May 31st.

In celebration of the library’s centennial year, the renovation will position the library to meet the needs of the community for generations to come. The construction, which will take six to eight months, will be overseen by Nickerson & O’Day Inc., the same firm that constructed the original building in 1963.

At the temporary location, the hours of operation will remain the same. This summer, patrons can expect access to the library’s essential services, including internet, public computers, printing, scanning, faxing, and access to some of the collection. The rest of the collection will be stored off-site, but patrons will continue to have access to interlibrary loan services.

The Katahdin Gear Library will also be open on the premises, thanks to the library’s partnership with the Outdoor Sport Institute. Cardholders will be able to check out mountain bikes, canoes, and kayaks for free. Bike repairs will also be offered by donation.

The temporary space will provide a cozy atmosphere for reading, working, meeting, and programmed activities like the annual Summer Reading Program. The Summer Meals Program will continue this year as well, offering bagged lunches to youth on site from 11AM-1PM, starting on June 24th.
