Millinocket Memorial Library Seeks New Volunteers
The Millinocket Memorial Library seeks new volunteers to join us in our ongoing campaign to provide innovative and diverse library services to the town of Millinocket and the Katahdin Region!
What do volunteers do at the library? Almost everything! They coordinate, schedule, and run the library’s programming for children and for adults. Volunteers work with the library materials, preparing and repairing books, magazines, DVDs, and more. Volunteers mow the lawn, shovel the snow, and clean the building. Many volunteers staff the circulation desk, answering questions, greeting patrons, and checking materials in and out.
There are now even more volunteer opportunities through two of the library’s exciting new initiatives: the Katahdin Gear Hub and the Digital Learning Lab. At the Gear Hub, the library’s bicycle- and gear-lending branch at 96 Penobscot Ave, volunteers are trained in basic bicycle safety and the library’s cataloguing software, allowing them to help patrons borrow mountain bikes.
The Digital Learning Lab, an initiative that helps people learn about and become more comfortable with technology, offers workshops on a variety of topics including introduction to computers, graphic design, social media management, and more. If you have digital skills that you are willing to share, consider working with our DLL Coordinator, Taylor Sulander, to develop and lead a workshop with the Digital Learning Lab.
Whether you are interested in helping out at the Gear Hub, creating a workshop through the Digital Learning Lab, coordinating programming at the library for children or adults, or spending some time helping out with the library’s day-to-day functions (at the circulation desk or behind the scenes), consider joining us: you might be exactly the volunteer the library needs!
To apply to volunteer at the Millinocket Memorial Library, stop by the library’s circulation desk to pick up an application or download and print a copy of the application from the library’s website. We are growing our team and would love for you to join us! Completed applications may be mailed to the Millinocket Memorial Library at 5 Maine Ave, Millinocket, ME, 04462 or returned to the library’s circulation desk.
If you don’t have time to offer as a library volunteer, but still would like to support the library, consider a contribution in support of our upcoming building renovation. More information about the Future Library Project and a link to donate may be found on the website’s Capital Campaign page.
