What’s New In January 2015

What’s New In January? Best wishes to everyone for a Happy and Healthy New Year! Here’s what’s new this first month of 2015:

  • We will be closed Monday, January 19th for Martin Luther Kind Day.
  • The monthly meeting of the Library Board of Trustees will be on Tuesday, January 20th
at 1:30 pm in the downstairs meeting room. The public is always welcome to attend.
  • This month, the Book Discussion Group meets on January 20th at 9:00 am, but we
thought it’d be more helpful to let you know about next month’s meeting, so you have
time to order and read the book. On February 17th, the book being discussed is “Levi’s
Will” by W. Dale Cramer; see Lori to order a copy.
  • The Literary Club has a gorgeous display in our cases this month:  Vintage Women’sJanuary Newsletter 2015 | Millinocket Memorial Library
Accessories, including fans, purses, gloves and jewelry. The items are beautiful and
well worth a visit to see!

It’s the month for our annual magazine giveaway! On Monday, January 26th, we’ll be making available all of our 2013 issues plus many older quilting, sewing, knitting, and craft magazines, as well as a large number of older issues from our stored collection, including Down East, Yankee, and Ideals Magazines. Check at the front desk for a list and let staff know before that date if there are any titles you want.

We started letting you know last month about fundraising efforts getting underway in anticipation of possibly severe cuts to the Library’s FY 2015–2016 budget. In February, you’ll be able to help the Library by voting for us on the Bangor Savings Community Matters More ballot; the nonprofit in our region with the most votes will be awarded $5,000! You can vote by paper ballot aat the Bank or Library, or online at Bangor Savings Bank. Be sure to spread the word. Also, we’ll be starting our Pledge Drive in the next several weeks, so keep an eye out for our appeal form at the Library and local businesses. And the Friends of the Library is planning several social fundraisers, so stay tuned for more info.

Last but not least, our January book order has arrived. We have new fiction by Jane Green, W.E.B. Griffin, Robin Hatcher, Jack Higgins, James Patterson, David Poyer, Brad Taylor, and Sherryl Woods; mysteries by Loren Estleman, Carol Miller, Robert B. Parker, Anne Perry, and Charles Todd; nonfiction titles, “Healthcare Made Easy” and “Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2015”; a Maine Collection title “Neighborhood Heroes”; and two Memorial Collection titles: “No Greater Valor” and “The Color of Courage”.

As always, let us know if there are any books you want us to order for you (purchase or loan), and if you have any questions or comments. Until next time, stay warm and see you at the Library!
