Check Out the Digital Learning Lab

The Digital Learning Lab at the Millinocket Memorial Library is in full swing! The Digital Learning Lab is a collection of services, programs, and resources to empower and engage patrons and residents in the Katahdin region to new opportunities around them using new digital tools. DLL services range from group classes to equipment to free connection to the internet.

Access to broadband connection has been identified as a critical component to economic and workforce development efforts in our region. At the library, we recognize that an important piece of the broadband puzzle is ensuring that people feel comfortable using computers and the internet safely to take advantage of the benefits that come with improved broadband. Our goal with the Digital Learning Lab is to provide many different opportunities for people to learn the basics of computers and internet in an accessible, safe, and friendly environment. We do this by giving people free access, both structured and unstructured, to equipment and the resources needed to become familiar and proficient with that equipment.

Current programs and services available through the library include:

  • Weekly Intro to Computer Classes on Wednesday at 9am, covering computer basics including Windows, internet, and email;
  • Free access to 12 public access computers, as well as fax, print, and scan services;
  • Free high-speed internet access at the library, as well as public locations in Millinocket, including the public pool at Stearns High School and Veterans Memorial Park;
  • Drop-in hours on Saturdays from 10-12 for one-on-one help

Thanks to generous grants from the Gloria C. MacKenzie Foundation and San Jose State University, plus donations from many others, the Digital Learning Lab has provided service for more than 4,000 wireless connections and over 2,500 computer sessions in the Katahdin region in the first six months of 2018!
