Katahdin Gear Library

WHAT IS THE KATAHDIN GEAR LIBRARY?

The Katahdin Gear Library (KGL) is a gear-lending library, outdoor adventure club, and public space for people of all ages to access equipment and tools, information and leadership, and to connect with people around a common interest in outdoor adventure and recreation.

HOW TO BORROW GEAR

  • You must sign our 2021 Gear Library Waiver. Borrowers under 18 must have a legal parent or guardian present to sign the waiver.
  • With the exception of fat tire bikes, gear can be checked out for 1 week, with 1 week guaranteed renewal. After the 1 week renewal period, you may check it out again if no one else has it on hold. Due to high demand, fat tire bikes may be checked out for up to three days at a time with no renewal.

TYPES OF GEAR

We offer different gear depending on the time of year. Click on each type of gear to learn more:

HOW WE GOT STARTED

The gear library was founded by Millinocket Memorial Library in 2018 with support from Outdoor Sport Institute, Maine Community Foundation, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Bicycle Coalition of Maine, and many private donors to support healthy living, empowerment through knowledge, and community-building through outreach, communication, and volunteerism.

The gear library is staffed by Millinocket Memorial Library volunteers, staff, and our Gear Library Intern, Treyce Stevens, thanks to support from the Quimby Family Foundation.
