Millinocket Memorial Library is a public library and 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to enrich lives, inspire imaginations, and empower community. The Library seeks a Treasurer for its volunteer Board of Directors effective January 2024.

Duties & Responsibilities

As an executive and voting member of the library’s board, the Treasurer’s key responsibility is assuring that the Board receives accurate and timely financial information and uses it in making decisions. Specific duties include:

  • Ensure that the board regularly monitors the organization’s financial performance and alerts it to any important discrepancies between planned and actual figures
  • Ensure that the appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are reviewed by the Board
  • Assist in the preparation of the library’s annual budget and its presentation to the Board for review
  • Assist the Library Director in long-term financial forecasting and strategic planning
  • Oversee the library’s investment strategy, with the Finance Committee
  • Oversee the development of financial policies and their review by the board, with the Finance Committee
  • Serve as a co-signer on the library’s bank accounts
  • Meet with the library’s external financial reviewer to identify any financial control and record-keeping problems and oversee action by the Library Director to address them
  • With the Library Director, inform the Board of important financial events, trends, and issues relevant to the library

Committees

The Treasurer is a member of the Executive Committee and serves as the chair of the Finance Committee.

Term

The Treasurer role is a three-year role with the possibility of renewal for additional terms.

Desired Qualifications

  • Commitment to the library’s mission, vision, and values
  • A understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices
  • Experience with using financial information for strategic decision-making
  • Working knowledge of investment risks and management
  • Ability to commit to about 10 hours per month
