Trout Mountain Day Hike

  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • No cost to participants
  • All abilities are welcome!
  • This trail is ~6mi round trip and is considered moderate for its uphill hike towards the newly built fire tower. Panorama views of Katahdin and the surrounding lakes can be seen on a clear day atop the tower. For more information on this trail click here.

Ride the Ridge – Mountain Bike Skills Session

Hammond Ridge Bike Trails
  • Thursday July 13, 2023
  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • No cost to participants
  • KGL bikes & helmets will be available, but participants are welcome to bring their own mountain bike and helmet as well. Please make note of this in the registration.
  • Helmets are required!
  • Participants must be comfortable riding a bike, but no prior mountain bike skills are required.
  • This will be based at the Hammond Ridge Trailhead, located about 7mi outside of Millinocket. Click here for more information on the location and trails.

Overnight Hiking Adventure

  • Wednesday July 19 – Thursday July 20, 2023
  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • $25 per participant (needed by Monday July 17th to secure a spot!)
  • Gear & packing lists will be sent after registration.
  • Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent overnight!
  • Location TBD

Overnight Mountain Bike Trip

  • Wednesday July 26 – Thursday July 27, 2023
  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • $25 per participant (needed by Monday July 24th to secure a spot!)
  • Gear & packing lists will be sent after registration
  • Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent overnight!
  • Participants must be comfortable riding a bike, but no prior mountain bike skills required.

Intro To Paddle Sports

  • Thursday August 3, 2023
  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • No cost to participants
  • All paddle crafts and safety gear will be accessible via KGL
  • No prior paddle skills needed, but participants must be comfortable on and in the water.
  • Lifejackets are required! If you’re bringing your own, please make note in the registration.
  • This will be an exploratory day with different types of paddle crafts available to try- canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. Instruction and safety lessons will be provided for each boat.

2 Night Backcountry Canoe Trip

  • Tuesday August 8 – Thursday August 10, 2023
  • Open to rising 7th-10th graders
  • $25 per participant (needed by Saturday August 5th to secure a spot!)
  • Gear & packing list will be sent after registration
  • Participants must be comfortable in a canoe, being in the backcountry, and sleeping in tents.
  • Participants must also have attended at least one other KGL summer program or one of the above outings to attend this trip.
  • Lifejackets are required! If you plan on bringing your own, please make note of this in the registration.

These youth programs are a collaboration of Katahdin Area Trails, the Katahdin Gear Library, Millinocket Memorial Library, and Outdoor Sport Institute.
